Please see the letter below from Superintendent Dr. Lisa Lantrip regarding a school closure on November 19th:
Southern Hancock Schools will be closed on Tuesday, November 19th. At this time, nearly 70 Southern Hancock teachers have notified our administration they will not be at school on the 19th to attend the Red for Ed rally at the Indiana Statehouse. Due to this significant number of absences, we do not have enough substitute teachers to continue with school on that day.
School will be canceled on November 19th. A make-up day will take place on February 17th, 2020. Please mark your calendars to have school on Presidents Day.
We have decided not to use an E-Learning Day for this missed day in order to preserve the integrity of what we believe E-Learning should be used for. We believe teacher involvement is critical to the success of E-Learning Days for our families. Since our teachers cannot be available on this day due to the Red for Ed rally, we have elected to not call for an E-Learning Day.
I support our teachers in advocating for adequate school funding that keeps pace with annual inflation rates and responsible school reform measures.
I appreciate your understanding in regards to this schedule change and your support of public education. Please contact your building principal with any further questions.
